Observation details
Continuing - originally found by Ryan O'Donnell yesterday. Actively flitting around in mesquite trees by the southwest end of Pond 7, along the trail between Ponds 5 and 7. It was very active and generally did not stay still for more than a couple seconds. At times it was very vocal, giving sharp "whit" calls, making it easier to locate. The tail feathers were very short and appeared to be in molt. Many other birders were present. See attached photos and audio recording. Small empid that looked large-headed; complete white eye ring, slightly elongated at rear; bill appeared fairly large at the base; upper mandible black; lower mandible completely orange; top of bird brownish-olive; white wing bars; black wings with white edges; throat white; breast grayish; yellow wash on flanks and lower belly; most of the tail was missing -- appeared to be in molt; vocalized with single sharp "Whit" call notes, widely spaced apart.
