Media notes
Two doves in flight (Mourning dove on the left, White-winged dove on the right). White wing bars and pronounced white tail feathers visible.
Observation details
Working on a private construction site. Over the course of an hour or so, I flushed a number of flocks of doves, numbering close to 50 individuals When group flushed from cover, one individual appeared slightly larger and bulkier than the others. As I watched it in flight, I noticed that the tips of the wings were significantly darker than a mourning doves and there were large white wing bars evident. The tips of the outer tail feathers were also noticeably more white. I ended up seeing the individual several times in close proximity to mourning doves. When the bird was perched near mourning doves, it made them appear petite, and the white, outer tail feathers were still prominent. Two photos included, one mourning dove and white-winged dove are pictured together (in flight, the white-winged is the individual on the right, and perched, it is the left bird).
