Observation details
Photos to add. First seen when it flushed from the western shore as I walked up onto the overpass on Port of Stockton Exp. It banked and returned to the near shore further north. A moment later the security guard drove past and flushed the bird again, at which point it landed in the canal on the north side of the facility and I was able to get photos. Rene arrived and shortly after a train passed and the bird headed east out over the ponds, at that point we stopped watching it momentarily and we could not relocate it. HUGE bird with pelican bill and brown coloration. Unmistakable. It foraged in the canal for a while, apparently catching something on more than one occasion (possibly Mosquitofish), before the train scared it off.
