Observation details
Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip, not simply for the species but also for the amazingly close looks this particular bird gave us. Around 10:25 spotters on the top deck called out the bird as it approached our stern flying at a steady clip. Reaching the Helen H, the skua circled the ship 4-5 times, sat down for a few minutes behind the boat feeding in the chum, then flew to the bow and sat down again on the water, before finally taking off and heading out to sea.
