Observation details
Excluding the much rarer Red-Faced or Brandt’s cormorants, the overall size of the bird, its thick neck and short tail length, as well as the lack of white side-rump suggest an adult Double-Crested Cormorant. However, the photo is inconclusive: a dark side-rump could also imply an immature Pelagic Cormorant (particularly given the time of year). Thus, a generic, species identifier is utilised.
