Observation details
Very exciting. While waiting for the shuttle to the other campus a blur of a bird dashed low overhead and disappeared between two rows of bushes. All the house sparrows that were hidden deep in those bushes started chattering in alarm but stayed put. I suspected it was a hawk so I slowly walked over to about 20 feet away and saw this immature Cooper's hawk perched on a low stone wall between the rows of shrubs. The sparrows kept chirping while the hawk looked at them in both sets of bushes. Then all of a sudden the hawk dove into one of the bushes. All of the sparrows took off in all directions.....except for one that that was carried off in the talons of the hawk about 20 seconds later. Cell phone photos of the hawk.
