Observation details
1. Seemed like juveniles from their call, at first. 2. Actually I only saw the part of the story. I was focused on how to get some good shot of the Plum-headed Parakeets (P-hP). Was standing below the tree at the edge of the pond & the open field, where they perched. Then the male adult OM-R appeared very close! Couldn't get any shot. After sometime the female, followed by their two kids. Got it, they are actually having dinner at the dusk. Then, to my surprise, the female acted very bold. It perched onto a cement post (probably a boundary marker). Before taking any shot again, it flew into the field. By this time I was curious & I left the idea of the P-hP. I stood at the place & waited if these birds luckily perch around any of the suitable trees. The two juveniles kept calling for food, sitting at a branch hanging over the pond. Another shot missed, as the female flew in with some insect, fed to one of the chicks & flew back into the field. But before that it perched onto the post, again. I understood & quickly took a position within 4 meter, such that the post is in front of my camera, with a nice background (basically no empty sky). The juveniles kept on calling with occasional change of the perch. 3. 1755 As I imagined, the female flew in with a Praying mantis & Jackpot! It sat on the same post, looked here & there. I got my first few shots with a catch. It went to feed that to the juvenile, but they were inside dense branches & leaves, not allowing any photos. It flew back to the same post, before jumping into the field again & allowing me to take some more shots. 4. This process repeated two or three times. I took some more photos of the female with other food (grasshopper, spider, etc.). The male was comparatively more wary of me & stayed bit far. They finished all the nearby insects & all four of them slowly drifted away while the feeding continued. The whole process lasted about 5 minutes & it was too dark to get quality photos by this time. Nevertheless, I was content to have what I didn't expect!
