Observation details

Overwhelming numbers of hummingbirds at 12 feeders. Consumed 4 liters of 30% sucrose water today. ~90 counted during peak 10 second periods. Very rapid turnover. Huge numbers of hummers perched in surrounding trees digesting sugar water and waiting for an opening. For estimates of total feeder population, I multiplied the peak 10-second count by a factor of three (90 X 3 = 270). 3X is conservative. The actual multiplier should be somewhere between 3X and 10X.
