Observation details
Mega! Cracking juvenile showing like a dream. First picked up in the far corner through the early mist, on the shore with two Coots and causing confusion ... hefty shape, shortish-legged and pale wader revealing itself to be a Knot. Pale fringing to upperparts/coverts and faint buffy wash to the breast confirming age. Extremely confiding and showed down to feet; foraging merrily along the southern shore, only flying once just a few feet. Monster local bird: the 14th south-west Surrey record, only the fourth in the last 65 years! A new bird for Tuesley too (wader species number 20!).
