Media notes
It really surprised me how small they really are. At first mistook it for a dotterel.
Observation details
Was just wrapping up the quick walk to see what I could find. I approached some stilts to see if they would pose in the afternoon light. Suddenly, a tiny bird flushes from underneath a nearby bush and struts across the mud. I couldn't believe that Australia's smallest crake was right in front of me. Distinct red eye, speckled back and upright tail continuously popping up and down. I was surprised to find that the bird only got a small fright before continued foraging in the mud. Possible resident in the area. Rufous Line across the faces suggests adult female.
