Observation details
All dark brown wading bird with long down curved bill. Foraging with a group of young white ibises on the second mudflat in the channel south of the railroad spit. Slightly smaller than the white ibises and with a head and neck much darker than the gray of the white ibises. It flew off to the north with the white ibis group at 6:55 a.m. They came past me in a single file profile view with the dark ibis in the middle of the line and it did not show any white on the underside. As they passed me, I got a good rear view and saw 10 white rumps and one dark one which belonged to the dark ibis. This white ibis group has been returning to roost at night, so it might be worth a look late this evening or in the morning around 6:30 a.m. to see if the glossy ibis returns with them.
