Observation details
I heard this bird calling far off to the north as it flew in towards the ponds. It was so high at first, I couldn't see it. It circled around several times before landing very briefly by the pond under the railroad bridge. I only saw it in flight and it was readily identifiable as a dowitcher by the medium-size shorebird body; rather chunky body; and very long, thick, straight bill. It was only on the ground for about 30 seconds before it flew off to the south. It looked like it circled back, but we could not relocate it. Identified by flight calls.
