NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 53. Bulk reel: 81 203 tape. 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM. Cloudy, fair, moon. Natural song. Quality: 1. Level: +3. 3 3/4" & 7.5" LN. Song after playback. At end bird's song accelerates and bird then flies with wing-knocks and "growls." Quality: 1. Level: +3. 7.5". LN. Then song given later. Quality: 1. Level: +3. 7.5" & 3 3/4". LN. While this bird was singing "naturally" (from as early as 7:15 PM) it did not use "growls" or wing-knock display. I played some of its song and while I was still playing it flew with knocks and growls. I tried to get it to repeat so as to record some but got only a little. Thereafter I tried repeatedly through playback, sometimes waiting 5 minutaes or more, to have bird display but it invariably flew, after singing, without displaying. Some time after I stopped trying, twice in succession the bird gave a "big" display after a short song session. After the last, it alighted in the tree where I had last recorded it and continued giving "growls." A bit of this was recorded with no attempt to focus exactly on the bird.
