Observation details
After the trek with Pat to the flats I was a bit intimidated by the size of the area that had to be covered. We split up for a second and I continued out to where Jay and Keith were (maybe they had the bird?). I stopped at my first group of plovers, the search began. After memorizing field marks of this specific bird I began just going off of breast band size, completeness, and hue. One by one SEPL SEPL SEPL etc., then my scope landed on this bird who’s breast band was way thicker and completely dark with no signs of wear or molt like the other plovers. Knowing my time with this bird could be short I digiscoped some photos and video immediately then just watched it for the remainder of the time. No evidence of a yellow orbital ring, the black extended to the gape and did not leave a gap as with the other adult SEPLs. The bill was dark and tapered at the end consistent with the previously reported individual with the eye stripe trickling into the forehead. Overall the bird was a little bigger compared to the others and was sort of a bully as we watched it play tug-o-war over a worm and chase the other plovers around. Screen grabs from video show no webbing between the inner and outer toes.
