Observation details
Hurricane Hilary bird. Spotted earlier around 0940 from CVWR. Drove over and parked along the N shore at 15/14 road. I was not seeing it immediately, then it flew past me below the riprap; just saw the wingtip flash it was so close to the road. Made a few more passes, including behind us in ponds 15/14, before disappearing once the wind started picking up. White not as extensive on the distal end of the uppertail coverts as some WRSP but bill shape correct for WRSP vs. TOSP, showing a thick bill with strong gonydeal angle, like YFGU vs. WEGU. White on uppertail/rump extending straight across perpendicular to the body and in line with the trailing edge of the wings and wrapping around to the undertail coverts. Black shafts on the white uppertail coverts. Tail not so much forked with a shallow V cut, but with an almost straight or very shallow rounded U cut when just slightly spread, and outer most tail feathers projecting just slightly more past the line of the shallow U curve. I only saw it in direct comparison to a LSTP when viewing it from CVWR earlier and it appeared to be the same size as the adjacent LSTP. Observed from 1008 to about 1030.
