Observation details
Found by David Rankin around 10:25 am. Seen floating on the water between the DS3 & DS4 platforms. Similar and size and floated lower in the water than a nearby apparent immature Heermann’s Gull which flew and landed next to it. The bird appeared to be all dark above with a dark cap, pale nape, dark wings and back. The bird lifted its wings a couple of times and we could see one pale/white marking near the tips of the wings. Could not see the tail. The light was changing, but we may have a distant photo of this bird alongside the Heermann’s Gull. It did not stay long, and with the arrival of the tropic bird may have chased it away. Others have entered this as Pomarine, but there lots of discussion about this bird and looking at poor, distant photos makes us elect to list this as jaegar sp for the moment. We will add the poor photos that we have. Photo shows Heerman's Gull on the right, jaeger on the left. Also a photo of the wings when it flapped.
