Observation details
This species has been seen at this lake before on 9/9/2022 and 9/10/2022 (after tropical storm Kay) and well documented then with photos. Records are in eBird for those days from Elm Grove Beach, Perret Park and Lake Elsinore hot spots. By far the most abundant rarity seen today. Carefully counted by Charity and Julie several times to be sure of this high number. The birds today were either flying or floating in singles or many rafts on numerous birds of same species. A very small all dark storm-petrel with small dark bill. Deep wing beats and a more direct flight than other storm-petrel species seen today. Unfortunately, we saw a Peregrine Falcon catch and consume two of these today.
