Observation details
Incredible find by Messrs. Abela, Stahl, Lehman and Thorpe, who got the word out right away. Continuing in challenging conditions. Initially only able to see a small dark dot low above the water nearer to the far shore and now down to just two of us left, I spotted a white-rumped storm petrel fly to the west just beyond two WEGR in the middle of the water. It banked back and then vanished, presumably landing on the choppy water. Thanks to Dennis for discovering that it was now almost directly in front of us, giving us both brief but great views, despite the abysmal weather. Tiny, dark storm petrel looking almost swallow-sized as it flew just above the surface. The broad, extensive white rump was obvious even in bleak and waning light. While my cropped, rain obstructed id photos won't win any awards, the white rump wrap around to the untc can be seen plainly in the the 2nd and 3rd photos, while the thicker bill also separating it from Townsend's can be detected in the 1st and 4th photos. Did not get any shot that show the tail well.
