Observation details
lifer!!! was riding bike along sidewalk when I observed some birds flying from within the water pumping station across the fence to some roadside trees, initially didn't seem very remarkable and assumed bulbuls but their size and color seemed a bit off, turned back and reverse the bike for a better look and saw some birds hopping in the trees, didnt seem like bulbuls so thought maybe starling, then when I got to see the beak of one immediately realized grosbeak! was super excited since I've never seen any grosbeak species and also they're pretty birds, earlier today when I was browsing ebird I was also viewing the yellow billed grosbeak page and wishing to see one. took out camera from backpack quickly and took some photos of the one on the tree, however many too high and blocked. The first one I saw was a female (only realized later, didn't take photos at the time because didn't know the gender differences), and saw a lot more flying between the roadside trees and trees within the pumping station, Later when I went forward a bit to the old residential building (where I saw the bush warblers) I also saw more on pretty tall tree at the bank of Xiangjiang river, however they were too high up, only saw them flying to a from the tree. Got a photo of a male there, and also recorded some audio (didn't learn their calls yet but assumed it was their calls since it was coming consistently from that tree from multiple birds). Love the look of these birds and again am very lucky to see them!!
