Observation details
Very early . Confused this for a female cerulean at first . Got fooled by the lighting and didn’t expect to encounter a bay breasted warbler at this date. May well be the earliest fall record for the city by 6 days . Big kudos to George for help. Photos sealed the deal. Unstreaked underparts and lacking yellow feet and the facial pattern is plain otherwise. I thought it was a cerulean because I saw the eyeline and the yellow wash and because of the date. You’d expect a cerulean before a bay breasted perhaps even given how early it is! My looks were kinda like those in this photo but really couldn’t seal the deal until I looked at my own pics: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/569698771 _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Note added 08.16.23 : looked at the warbler guide by Stephenson and Scott Whittle and added more pics. Reaffirming my conviction for BBWA 1st fem type bird. Short tail , unstreaked breast, yellow tinge to underparts, plain facial expression with eyeline , boat shaped body.
