Observation details
Juv (digiscoped photos). Direct comparison with WESA and LESA, alongside at times. Plumage tones as WESA juvs, but subtle wash of gray-buff across breast, back with no clear rufous or white striping instead pale scaly edges to back feathers; auriculars and crown darker than WESA, making whitish supercilium very striking. Bill short and thick-tipped, legs apparently black (when next to LESA showing greenish leg color); bird slightly smaller than WESA, but larger than most LESA. This bird was very territorial, frequently chasing WESA (as they waded by) or LESA (as they typically approached along margins). Foraged mainly by probing in shallow water and picking in muddy/algal-scummy surfaces.
