Observation details
Found by Andy FIltness and MIchelle Kubin. Group of terns appeared on the far southwest finger of the point, but too far off initially to ID. Andy, Michelle, and Craig were already on the birds when I made it to the end of the sandy strip. Juvenile like tern with overall light gray upperparts, pale white below, coal gray primaries, distinct blackish carpal bar, mask that raps around head/nape creating a mullet look, dark slim bill. Short tailed look. Perhaps slightly smaller than nearby Forster's. In flight the tern showed a dark carpal bar and unique window to primaries/secondaries intersect. Good looks with 8x42s and barrowed looks with Andy's scope. Photo'd.
