Media notes

NOTES: BNA: Chick calls. LNS Note: Unbroken cut with internal recordist announcement gain change (MJA,4Feb2005). Range status: NORMAL; Breeding status: TERRITORIAL PAIRED; Frequency of sound: NORMAL; General climate: DRY; Cover density: OPEN; EARLY MARCH. JUVENILE WAS A CHICK. JUVENILE(S); Sex: UNKNOWN [The first part of this recording contains the "weeah" or "phew" call given by chicks, but the rest of the recording highlights calls by the adult (with the chicks heard calling in the background). Most of these latter calls represent the Yelps of BNA (BEST series at 3:15-3:36), but there are also series of soft twitters that represent either Clucks or a call-type not described in the account (e.g., 5:28-6:35). At least some of the voice announcements are backwards (e.g., 4:52-4:55), possibly due to print-through or a tape that was recorded more than once but never fully erased [??] Quality changed from 1-2 to 2-1, 3-2 (the best signal is in the first part but many of these calls are overloaded, leaving only the quieter calls intact) - CAM - 3 March 2005] LNS: Subject changed from Gallinula chloropus to G. galeata to reflect current taxonomy. -Matt Medler, 14 Sept 2011. Other Behaviors: Mate, Establish Parent Young Contact. Habitat: Wetland, Park/Campus/Cemetery, Salt Marsh, Brackish Marsh, Pond.
