Observation details
After admiring the bison and pronghorn, we reached a stop with a vault toilet and a meandering trail along the Madison River right next to the numerous bison. While walking toward the facilities, a bunch of swallows came and began dive-bombing me. In my own experience, Barn Swallows nesting on inconveniently placed buildings would attack with such intent. Wary Cliff Swallows would never so much as flutter within a football field of me, let alone near my personal space bubble. In spite of my past experiences, these bothered Cliff Swallows wouldn’t let any intruder get past without letting them know who the real boss was. I admired these swallows for their eagerness to protect their hard work and diligence. I watched them return back to their mud igloos from the toilet roof ledge with food or extra mud pellets. They communally interacted, content with each other’s presence. Cliff Swallows represent teamwork, diligence, and dedication to survive in a blessed world. They performed such intense acrobatics in the air, gracefully turning through every ridge in the mountain with little error. Although a slightly repugnant location to nest, especially with tonnes of beautiful cliffs just a hundred yards above, the bathrooms provide a secure ledge for these avian creatures. I sat in that spot next to the lavatories until enough people gave me odd glances, simply admiring the swallows—and attempting to obtain photographs of them in flight. I’m not sure if I was successful…
