Piercing whistled calls, a few chucks, and a longer phrase or two of Rufous-backed Robins calling at the big Arroyo Cieneguilla. Two successive cuts. Background includes: Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher, White-winged and White-tipped Doves, distant Elegant Trogon, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, & a woodpecker drum. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
We heard some song at dawn, 5:05-5:20am, then later, many coming to drink at cattle tank seep and at pools down the trail. Also multi-bird chases (3-4 birds) produced intense interactions with face-offs and intense, complex song with calls for several minutes on one occasion, shorter on others; also periods of regular song after dawn; regular calls, the burry chip, including rapid series at times.
