Observation details
I hiked to the location where Baird's had been seen regularly in recent days. It was extremely windy and hazy from wildfire smoke, so conditions were not good for birding. I saw a small sparrow fly low over the grass and disappear. I played the song of a Baird's Sparrow and this bird—which appears to be an immature—immediately flew to the fence about 30 yards away. These photos are all I have to go on. Depending on the view, I can make it into a Grasshopper Sparrow or a Baird's Sparrow. My only other clue is that it responded to the Baird's song. If it can be more positively identified as either species, I'd like to know.
