Observation details
Striking medium sized sparrow, with black malar marking. Faint breast spot. Fairly long tail, faint streaking on breast which would point to a juvenile perhaps? White patch/spot developing in cheek. Was losing light, photo isn't great but will try to adjust better later. Unexpected lifer for me! First saw the bird fly up into a tree as I approached the path from parking lot toward water. Noticed white on tail, and seemed like a potential "weird" sparrow, but bird was obscured so I moved on. On way back, flew again into a spruce near parking area. Fairly sure it vocalized as well but didn't catch a recording.
