Observation details
Photographed and heard around Lower Dewey Lake in mixed forest. Calling “tsi-LECK prur-rurrk”. This is a new species for me, but it definitely was not an alder or a pacific slope, and I don’t know of any other Empids that are in the area. Merlin says it is either Hammond’s or Dusky, but my guidebook has Dusky further inland and not in Alaska.
