Observation details
Second breeding record for this location, the first being from 2021. This represents the 2nd breeding record for Yarmouth County. However, there was a fresh juvenile seen on the Argyle Sound Rd in West Pubnico on Aug 14, 2022 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S116947260), which strongly suggests breeding there as well. Young Cooper's are known to spend around 2 months near the nest after fledging. I had a Cooper's that flew north over the Abbott's Harbour Rd on Aug 3, 2023 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S146568720) and it is conceivable that this bird was headed towards a nest site farther north (maybe near the Argyle Sound Rd?). Today, three were juveniles flying around and vocalizing here: 43.804926,-65.895695. A juvenile was first detected in 2023 on July 25 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S145597504) and then 3 juveniles were confirmed on Aug 1 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S146212058). Breeding occurred at this location in 2021 as well. A fresh juvenile was seen on July 24, 2021 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S92250265) then three juveniles and an adult were seen the next day (https://ebird.org/checklist/S92292381).
