Observation details
A pair at 238 m. elevation observed for approx. 3,5 hours. First noticed when they took of from the ground and landed in a nearby tree, where they rested in separate places for about an hour, before one of the partners joined the other, and moved on to a more sheltered place when the rain intensified. There they receded close to each other during the downpour, while periodically preening. When the rain began to subside, the pair stated to affectionately preen each other, their interaction culminating in a brief mating, during which the pair would bill clap. Preening session followed, before the female moved to a lower branch before flying off, the male subsequently descending to the forest floor as well moments after. Here the pair was observed for a bit foraging in the mud of the less covered ground dipping their curved bill into the substrate, their behavior reminiscent of that seen by waders (or perhaps the Kiwis of New Zealand). They would periodically freeze for a moment, before continue feeding. Eventually they moved out of sight, disappearing amongst the foliage of the undergrowth.
