Observation details
Several birds heard, and a group of approx.5 individuals observed for about 1,5 hours. Very vocal, and active in intervals, where (presumed) males would fly around chasing each other. Alert, but not shy, birds would sit in the open despite human presence allowing approach. The birds trust their camouflage rather than fleeing, which is to their disadvantage. Hunting pressure high; locals report that the pigeon is a prime target, and feathers found along forest road indicate that the species is regular quarry. Despite this the species is said to remain common even close to settlements and this is backed up by the pigeon’s presence during fieldwork.
