Observation details
Continuing; discovered by Rafael Guzman yesterday 7/31 and re-found and alerted via email earlier today by Shirley Reynolds. Spotted by Becky Turley as we combined efforts to re-find them despite the parking chaos we had to endure. Thank you Rafael, Shirley, and Becky!! :)) 2 Bulbuls approximately Cedar Waxwing size, spikey tall black crest and head, thick black bill, small red spot/"whisker" (1 had a visibly smaller spot suggesting a female) above white auriculars, medium-dark brown that extends from the mantle down to its long tail, white underparts with dark breast marking, red undertail coverts (1 had less vibrancy in color, although marginal), and white tail tips. Based on the coloring and with the presence of “whiskers”, it looks like we observed 2 adults, a male and possible female, sans the juvenile that was photographed by Shirley R and Edana S earlier in the day. Hence, there have been at least 3 different RWBU documented in the area. First heard short calls upon arrival approximately 1200, deep in the yard of 2160 Skyline Drive, while standing on Miramar Dr. However, I was not able to get a visual at that time. Then at 1242, short calls were heard before Becky Turley spotted one flying across the street from the property where I heard it earlier in the day, to the top of an Elm located here (33.8893085, -117.9052376). It then proceeded to eat the berries in the mixed shrubbery, while another called from the Fig trees, in front of mentioned property. Shortly after, a second reunited to perch beside the other, sang together, then preened together. One then began to forage on its own, and at 1251, both flew back across the street to the original property, into a Fig tree before going on their merry way.
