Observation details
We observed a DRAKE-PLUMAGED FEMALE Mallard during the Saskatoon Nature Society's "Birdwatching for Beginners" field class. It very closely matches the illustration shown on page 17 of the Sibley second edition guide. John Patterson returned and obtained photos on May 31 that show the bird had a female-coloured beak despite the apparent male plumage.
