Observation details
Very dark, practically black mantle/back plumage unlike LTJA. Bill structure overall too heavy for LTJA. Central tail feathers broad (albeit worn) unlike pointed tail of PAJA. Somewhat pale/pinkish base to bill unlike PAJA. Most evidence observed as well as photographed points to POJA. Species apparently present on/off for 2 weeks since first reported by Peter Geithner and than more recently by Brian Moore, Ed Eden and Patrick Markee. While bird was flying and alert, it seemed sluggish and quite obviously off brand behaviorally as it loafed and walked on beach foraging for crustaceans rather than voraciously pirating fish from Gulls and Terns over open seas suggesting an unhealthy bird.
