Observation details
First-year bird; overall dark brown with large "bubble gum pink" bill; larger than BFAL. Large size especially noticeable when on water in direct comparison to BFAL. Well-seen with other Albatross (LAAL & BFAL) behind Shrimp Trawler. Seen at close range on water and in-flight. From WSS notes: Came across this bird while trying to get an accurate count of Black-footed Albatross (BFAL) in area. First seen on water in small group of BFAL; before long a Laysan (LAAL) also joined the group. Most noticeable was large pink bill, which immediately drew my attention. The bird took off and flew in closer to the trawler it was following. A first-year bird, dark brown overall with massive pink bill. On-water next to BFAL, the bird was noticeably larger and taller. Brown head and neck was darker and lacking white facial markings of BFAL. In the small feeding group of albatross on-water, this bird often dominated the space, adopting an imposing open-wing posture emphasizing it's larger size. Many photos obtained.
