Banded bird, identified as a second-year female.
Observation details
Banded bird: Light Blue/Metal on left leg; Dark Blue/Dark Gray on right leg. Mainly perched on electrical wire in different spots along the road and spent quite a bit of time perched in top of dead snag with two Northern Mockingbirds. Flew down to ground once and fluttered low to ground. A Barn Swallow dived at him once. Perched in top of tree once but then returned to wire. Caught and ate a grasshopper. Observed from 9:44a - 10:31a. During that time, it stayed between the Park Rules sign near main walkway to building and just east of memorial in parking lot. Main tree was directly across from memorial, alive at base but dead limbs above. From Tania Homayoun, PhD, Statewide Ornithologist TPWD: "By our records, the bird you saw was banded February 17, 2023 and we identified it as a second-year female. We’re not sure if she was associated with the nest found in the park near where Blanco Vista Blvd merges into the park road."
