Media notes
wingtip notes: P8 outer web goes farther up towards base of feather with smudgy border–this combined with mirror on P9 is not likely in HERG. P7 outer web is reduced and shows smith-like spike; usually CAGU has dark farther up on P7 and less distinct edge, or if pigment is reduced here it is reduced elsewhere.
Observation details
A returning individual from last year, confirmed by iris pattern and mirrors on p9 different in each wing. Best guess was and is a California Gull with Herring Gull influence, with recent hybrid ancestry made more likely by mix of colors in orbital ring and pale-speckled iris. Noting that iris, leg color, and wingtip pattern are basically identical to last year, supporting that these features are not likely to be influenced by immaturity.
