Observation details
Continuing individual; a goose that arrived here last fall as a juvenile and now appears to be over-summering. Fits right in with the horde of domestic Muscovy Ducks. When I first arrived at the boat ramp area, I watched it join in on a huge cereal-crazed dogpile (duck-pile?). This was a medium-sized goose, perhaps comparable in size to some of the larger Muscovy Ducks in the area. Its plumage was completely white, with a small patch of brownish smudging on the lower back. The primaries were black, and there was some sort of barred texture to the feathers on the neck. The triangular bill had a distinctive grin patch, and it was roughly the same pink color as the legs. Called occasionally, giving a deep honk. Spent time preening at the base of the boat ramp, also swimming around the adjacent little cove. Remarkably tame. Briefly fed on some grasses, so at least some veggies are making their way into its diet.
