NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 10. Bulk reel: 65 Weather: Fair. A pair was singing normally (not recorded). I then played Cut 8b). One bird did give a couple of the "low screams" but I wasn't prepared to record before it stopped. Then a bird started the "high screams" and another "low hoots." The bird giving the "high screams" also then gave "high hoots" and is therefore presumably the female. This is recorded. The preceding events did not permit determining defintely which bird gave the "low screams" but I think it was the same bird then started giving the "high screams." Quality: 2. Level: +5. Note that @ one place the "high-voiced" bird gives a "hoot" that is lower in frequency than its normal hoots and actually is about the same (to my ear now) as the "hoots" of the low-voiced bird. This followed some playback of the previously recorded sounds. In background near end is heard a "conflict call" of Otus choliba and also some "high screams" of a third C. virgata. Then is heard another sound in background, somewhat resembling a "conflict call" of O. choliba but which I now believe (15/X/65) is a "conflict" (or "bother") call of O. guatemalae which was heard singing in background near beginning of cut.
