Observation details
Previously reported. Beeg choice: Swallow-tailed Gull or Nazca Booby, gull or booby... Fortunately, by 1030 am, the birds decided for me. Seen on arrival from the car. The booby was in the mass of Brandt's Cormorants on Bird Rock, approximately lower center. The bird stayed in this area for the entire observation, occasionally repositioning. Clearly a booby, all blackish and white. All flight feathers black, when seen lifting wings. In rear view, lower back and upper wing coverts were white with black spots. Tail black with at least two white central feathers, with the white nearly reaching tip. In frontal view, underparts were all white. A black 'mask' enclosed the eyes and base of both mandibles. Under non-optimal lighting, bill appeared to be all yellow, a bit dull but not yellow-greenish. Legs were a dull undetermined color.
