Observation details
I approached an area where the cerulean warbler was seen a couple days prior hoping to re-find it. I was walking on the trail when I heard the cerulean warbler singing quite loudly. I had previously listened to recordings to familiarize myself to the song. I turned on the Merlin app and starting recording as I was making pishing sounds. Immediately after pishing the bird sang at very close range. I looked around by eye and couldn't locate it so I made the pishing sound again and immediately it sang again seemingly sounding like it was right on top of me. The conditions for visually spotting birds were poor because it was just after dawn in a mixed pine forest and overcast and misty rain. The bird sang a third time right above me and then I saw a warbler sized bird fly out of a tree 10 ft straight above me and off into the distance. I looked at my Merlin app to see that it had identified the song as a cerulean warbler also. I have included the recording.
