Media notes
Non-breeding. Remarks: The Broad-billed Sandpiper is a rare wader for the coast of Bay of Bengal, with rather infrequent reports from the region and almost no photographs. All posts on OBI from India are from the western coast (though this could be an indicator of lower levels of coastal birding on this side). We encountered 5 of these at Chandipur with flocks of roosting Lesser Sand Plovers and Curlew Sandpipers. We did not have a spotting scope to scan the roosting flocks which were anywhere between 7000-10000, which could have contained more. - AS. Date added to OBI: February 20, 2014.
