Observation details
One male northern bobwhite. I just recently read the articles that our Governor reintroduced 20,000 Northern Bobwhites in West Virginia. I am lucky enough to live in one of the areas. They were released at the Cross Creek wildlife Management just a few miles from my house in the fall of 2022. I have heard one starting in June. But now the male is a daily visitor and I see the female with him every few days. They eat our ground seed and live in a brushy area behind our house which has azaleas, burning bushes, holly, magnolias, maples, wild cherries, redbuds, juneberries, locust and numerous other shrubs. He has the white stripes on his head and large body. You can’t really mistake the bird or his call. He is quit loud and started hearing him the beginning of June. I just hope this pair will make it through the winter.
