Observation details
Irregular, yet widespread breeder in New York. Male singing in habitat that has been specifically targeted to this species. Large headed, sandy colored ammodramus sparrow. Black streaks with rufous on back, continuing on to flanks and breast. Golden supercilum extending down nape onto sides of head. White throat and underparts. Very short primary projection, not even reaching base of tail. Short tail. Pink legs. Clear, uncannily loud "tsi-lick" repeated constantly. Seen from within 25 feet of trail.
