Observation details
Uncommon to rare in summer, and an unusual location as well, away from the shore - albeit not far. Sitting on what looks to be an old tree trunk in the middle of the marsh. Was there when I arrived and for about 10 minutes afterwards, when it was flushed by two squabbling Snowy Egrets. It then flew off to the North. Immature bird..Small gull, thin black bill, pink legs, black ear patch. Likely the same bird that has been seen at Great Kills a couple of times in the past few weeks.
