Observation details
6:30am - Shaheen was initially perched on the lower ledge on the SW corner of the Leela building. She was occasionally preening and gazing towards estuary side. 6:40am - Falcon tested the wind briefly with open wings and continued with heavy preening. 6:45am - Actively looking around showing signs of taking off at any moment. Excreted once, preened again, shook off loose feathers and settled. Post a short regurgitation attempt, tested the wind again with open wings with short beats, now took off making the anti-clockwise round on the Leela building and appeared right overhead flying fast towards somerset building, not traceable post this. Missing for next 50 mins or so. Pigeon, Crow, Mana and Parakeet activity on the building were at the peak, with Parakeets checking the crevices on the wall & hanging around. 7:40am - Falcon flew in from the SE side of the building and landed on the usual pillar perch. She was panting heavily post landing and her behavior was a clear give away that she had made an hunt. It was a Rose-ringed Parakeet. After about 10 mins of panting and gazing around, she started to pluck the feathers from the neck portion. After few mins of preparation, she was feeding small bits of flesh carefully torn with light twists of her powerful bill. 8:05am - Took a 5 mins break in between looking around at flying Crows, soaring Darters and a gliding Black Kite. Then she dragged the Parakeet a little forward, made it lie on its back and started plucking & throwing the primary feathers down. After few mins of feeding, pulled the intestines out and threw it down. Went on feeding for the next 10 mins and then flew down to the base of the pillar perch. Remains of the Parakeet were still at the pillar perch.
