Observation details
Biggest flock seen so far from here. Initially about 50 of them were soaring in the thermals south of the apartment, later been joined by more birds gliding in from north. They gained good elevation just within 2 mins. Some got detached from the main flock and formed a smaller flock west of the building, when more continued to join main flock. Then all of them glided further south-east towards the Pallikaranai dump. Few new individuals continued to glide over the apartment building from North and moved towards the dump site. Added a Google maps image of the path the Black Kite flock followed to reach the Pallikaranai dump. Red circles are thermal pockets where the flocks soared and green arrows are the general direction followed to glide through. Initial gathering was around Guindy Race course where birds moved in from Mount road side. After climbing high, they started gliding further south. The next gathering was further south of Velachery lake and from the main flock birds disengaged & glided towards Pallikaranai dump.
