Observation details
Adult. Reported by visitor from California, who had seen it on pole at entrance to Mesilla Valley Bosque SP by Calle del Norte bridge late yesterday afternoon. Today, it was a bit over a mile N of the bridge. First saw it perched on low wire crossing the Rio where I could see its strongly banded tail, mottled back, and rusty underparts. It was being mobbed by crows, and first moved to perch on a brush pile in the river channel, then to a tree farther north. Tail pattern, rusty shoulders, and white crescents near on top of wing obvious in photo of bird landing.
