Observation details
lifer!!! was recording some audio for hair crested drongo, suddenly heard and recorded high pitch call, reminded me of downy woodpeckers' call, didn't realize they were woodpeckers yet. Turned and saw some small white birds/brown on trees. This wasn't a forest, rather a mango orchard so I was kind of surprised that there would be woodpeckers here (I'm used to seeing them in forests). Got some good photos, there were two of them, initially on the same branch and later on separate branches. Watched them peck some branches for a while, not very sure what they are doing but still very cool! really tiny woodpeckers, didn't heard them drum unfortunately, apparently they are very loud for their size (according to the merlin description). First woodpecker species in china for me!
