Observation details
Rare and irregular. Present at this location for three days. Seen intermittently feeding and perched in trees and deep brush bordering the parking area. Secretive, seen multiple times but never with a clear unobstructed view. Large all black long-tailed bird superficially resembling a Great-tailed Grackle. Head and neck feathers appeared shaky. Bill large, stout and sloped. Bill grooves visible through binoculars. Tail long and black and occasionally the tail was dipped or wagged. Bill size and shape rule out any blackbird species and bill grooves eliminate the much rarer Smooth-billed Ani. Called several times with a sharp loud whistle like note.
